Pastor Dianne Wendt

Pastor Dianne Wendt joined St. Stephen’s in August 2025.  Originally a native of Southern California, she spent much of her time working on her education in Texas.  She attended St. Edward’s University and the University of Houston, followed by the University of Texas Law School for her law degree, while simultaneously seeking a Master’s of Public Affairs at the LBJ School at UT.  Heading back to California, Dianne completed her final semester at Loyola.  She put her education to work initially as an elementary school teacher in Houston, followed by 20 years with the Public Defender’s Office in San Diego County.

Changing career direction, Pastor Wendt attended Claremont School of Theology for two years followed by her “Lutheran Year” at Pacific Lutheran School of Theology, in Berkeley. She completed her internship at Calvary Lutheran Church in Solana Beach, CA. Her first call was at Spirit of Peace Lutheran Church in Big Bear Lake, CA.  Her second call was at Lutheran Church of the Cross in East Sacramento.

When Pr. Dianne is not doing all her pastoral things, she loves to read, often snuggled by her two cats Sierra and Grace, walk her Labradoodle named Faith, cook, play water volleyball, sing, spend time with family and friends, and travel. She is passionate about justice for all people, especially children, as well as caring for creation.

Mariia, who holds a Master’s degree in Conducting from St. Petersburg State University, Russia, acts as  the pianist and organist for St. Stephen’s.  She additionally holds the positions of Administrator and Bookkeeper.   In addition to the services she provides to our church, Mariia is a Music Professor of the Vocal and Choral Program at Folsom Lake College.  Her numerous accomplishments include working internationally with renowned artists, being awarded the title of “Laureate”, and becoming the winner of the “Grand Prix” and “First Prize” at numerous European and Russian competitions.

Mariia also serves on Sacramento Valley Choral Coalition’s Board of Directors, is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), Chorus America, League of American Orchestras (LAO), National Association for Music Education (NAfME), and a member of the International Federation for Choral Music (IFCM).

Ms. Pechenova received Certificate of Recognition from El Dorado County, Certificate of Special Recognition from Tom McClintock member of the Congress of the United States and was awarded with the Flag of the United States of America flown over the United States Capitol in recognition of her U.S. Citizenship.
